Monty wrote and recorded this song in January 2000 as a theme song for the character of the same name. Patrick the Packrat was developed by the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Midlands in Columbia, SC to help teach third graders about the dangers of tobacco use. This song is available as a bonus song on the Take Me to Your Library CD. You'll find it among the extras if you put your CD in a Mac or Windows computer.
Patrick the Packrat - song lyric
Here comes Patrick
Hoppin and boppin in his vest
All those pockets
Stuffed with trinkets from his nest
jingle jangle
Like a walking treasure chest
Here comes Patrick the Packrat
(What's in the pockets, Patrick?)
Magnets, marbles, magic tricks
Pretzels, pencils, pick-up-sticks
Polished rocks, a tin kazoo
A key chain from the Riverbanks Zoo
But look through Patrick's pockets
and you'll never see
a cigarette pack
(No cigarette pack!)
Cause Patrick is smoke free
If you ask him
Why he chooses not to use
He will tell you
He's collecting all the news
On tobacco
What a sure-fire way to loose
You bet your whiskers
Patrick the Packrat
Long ago some packrats
Thought that smoking was the most
But young packrats know better now
Those old packrats are toast
Patrick's club's exclusive
For the most hip hop happenin' folk
So before you join his rat pack
You must pledge to never smoke
Here comes Patrick
All the pockets on his vest
Overflowing
Spilling trinkets from his nest
jingle jangle
Like a walking treasure chest
Here comes Patrick the Packrat
(What's in the pockets today, Patrick?)
Stickers, play dough, paper planes
Cookies, crayons, candy canes
Plastic lips, a fake tattoo
Every day it's something new
But look through Patrick's pockets
and you'll never see
a cigarette pack
(No cigarette pack!)
Cause Patrick is smoke free
If you look through Patrick's pockets
you will never see
a cigarette pack
(No tobacco!)
Pipe or cigar
(I said no tobacco!)
Cause Patrick
(Our friend Patrick)
Packrat Patrick
is
smoke
free
